Children trust mum more behind the wheel

Chidren trust mum more than dad when it comes to driving them around, a new survey has found.

In a blow to the pride of Britain's dads, six out of 10 five to 16 year olds say they feel safer when their mum is driving as they are apparently less likely to shout at other drivers, weave in and out of traffic or drive too fast.

Despite what dad may think of his four-wheeled pride and joy, kids apparently even think that mum is more likely to have the nicer car.
The survey by breakdown company GEM Motoring Assist shows the sort of things that dads should be doing to win over their young passengers, with 70 percent of kids liking it when mum sings while driving, and 52 percent saying they like it when she talks non-stop to keep the family entertained.

However, despite her entertaining demeanour and calm driving, mum is apparently less proficient when it comes to parking. 67 percent say that mum's poor parking ability leads to her bumping into walls, sign posts or other cars.

GEM boss David Williams said: "The research shows that while mum might not be the most skilled driver, she is certainly the most calm. Dads seem more intent on getting from A to B as quickly as possible, whereas mums will take things slower and spend their time singing or chatting to the kids rather than getting annoyed with other drivers."Print thisPermalinkEmail this
