Banned for Hanging Leg out of car window on Motorway

A driver has been spared jail after being caught driving along a busy motorway at 70mph with his leg hanging out of the window.

Painter James Nunns, 27, claimed he was experiencing "agonising cramps," but instead of pulling on to the hard shoulder, he stretched his leg outside of the car on the M18 near Doncaster. A marked police car pulled him over after Nunns' car began fishtailing when he tried to brake with his left foot, prosecutors said.

He admitted a charge of dangerous driving but escaped a jail sentence - instead he received a two year ban and was ordered to do 200 hours community service. "What you did beggars belief," said the judge, Recorder Peter Babb. "It is not the sort of activity which is conducive to road safety.

Nunns claimed his girlfriend of four years was about to leave him, his family had disowned him and if he went to jail he would lose his job. Tags: driving ban, DrivingBan, police
